About Me

Gail SimpsonMany years ago, having moved to a semi-rural area south-west of Sydney, I decided it was time to get back to what I liked to do - sewing. Inspired by a patchwork class, I purchased the Mary Ellen Hopkins book "It's Okay to Sit on my Quilt", and went from painting & dying silk, to dyeing cotton fabrics to use in my growing interest, patchwork.

Before I knew it, I was making quilts to display my hand-dyed fabrics, and wholesaling these fabrics Australia wide. Having spent too many hours choosing fabrics, I set myself a challenge of combining my hand-dyed fabrics with just one or two commercial prints.

The biggest influence on my quilt-making in the past five or so years has been Kaye England. She taught me to respect traditional work and the eye-opening use of specialty rulers. As a result I continually challenge myself to work on more traditionally styled quilts with a contempory influence.

For the past five years I have also been known as the Pfaff Pfloosy, due to my association with Pfaff as an Ambassador for Pfaff Sewing Machines. As a result I was able to enter the world on computerised machine embroidery, which added another dimension to my work.

My book, Fabric Fandango, due for release in September 2007, is a great way to get started having fun with my fabrics. I am continually working on new projects, and, of course, devising new & different colour packs.
